Google SEO HK

Google SEO HK is optimized for the local Google in Hong Kong. Google Hong Kong (google.com.hk) primarily offers searches in Traditional Chinese and English (as shown in the figure below). Will the results be the same when searching for a keyword in both languages? Certainly not, as it depends on whether the ranked websites have versions in both languages. Since Traditional Chinese is not Google’s native language, Google may not perfectly understand non-English copy, especially with synonyms, modal particles, local slang, and emerging internet slang, which may lead to misunderstandings.

For example, there are three websites A, B, and C with the following language versions:

Taking the search results for the keywords “出国留学” (study abroad in Chinese) and “study abroad” as examples:

When searching for “出国留学” in Traditional Chinese on Google SEO HK, websites A and B have the opportunity to rank.

When searching for “study abroad” in English on Google SEO HK, websites A and C have the opportunity to rank.

It can be seen that to rank for both Chinese and English terms, it is best for websites to have both Traditional Chinese and English versions.

If a local company or enterprise in Hong Kong wants to do Google in Hong Kong, in addition to having both Traditional Chinese and English versions of the website, it is recommended to use a domain name with the “.hk” suffix, which helps Google identify the market region of the domain. To ensure the fastest local response speed, it is also recommended to use a Hong Kong server for website hosting.

Google SEO International

Google SEO International is optimized primarily for the American Google. Google USA (google.com) searches in English, so websites must have an English version. As English is Google’s native language, it naturally demands more stringent requirements than other languages, in addition to common copywriting considerations, the following should also be noted:

  1. Correct English grammar, including capitalization and punctuation;
  2. English expressions should follow American and British standards, avoiding Chinglish;
  3. Avoid using tools for translation of copy;
  4. Avoid using AI to write copy.

If a website wants to rank on American Google, it is recommended to use a server in the United States for hosting.

What are the differences in optimization between Google SEO HK and International?

In terms of on-page optimization, the principles of SEO HK and SEO International are the same.

In terms of backlink building, SEO HK should prioritize backlinks from local Hong Kong sources. Similarly, for SEO International, backlinks should be prioritized from the United States.

In terms of domain name selection, SEO HK should ideally choose a domain with the “.hk” suffix; for SEO International, a domain with the “.com” suffix is preferred.

In terms of hosting selection, SEO HK should choose a server in Hong Kong; SEO International should choose a server in the United States.
